Daufuskie Island Real Estate Agents

Charles L. Cauthen

President

Charles L. Cauthen, a graduate of The Citadel, began his love affair with Daufuskie partnering with Halliburton of Dallas.  He moved into the Haig Point Lighthouse July of 1979 in order to plan and permit 2,330 acres (47% of Daufuskie).  Charles established The Daufuskie Company in 1984 when he and his investors sold Haig Point to International Paper, which subsequently funded the development of Haig Point. Today,  is the premiere development on Daufuskie Island, and one of the most upscale developments in the Low Country.

Since those early years, Charles has remained a Daufuskie Island property owner, though he no longer lives in the Haig Point Lighthouse. He does cherish his memories of sharing that historic home with Maggie the ghost and having dolphin serve as his alarm clock. He has served on the community preservation committee, and was instrumental in the permitting and partnership necessary to develop the Webb Tract and Oak Ridge neighborhoods.

Charles has a deep, emotional commitment to Daufuskie. Charles loves the island-it shows when he talks about it and he glows when he's there. Visit Daufuskie with Charles and watch as 80-year-old islanders greet him with hugs. Charles knows their children and their worries, their secrets and their cares. He sings their music, trusts their wisdom, respects their talents and has a keen understanding of their values.
